Book 3 is...

After roughly 14 months of working on it, I can now say that my next project is the follow-up to my 2021 book, 'The Making of Tomb Raider'!

Announced at TR28 on Saturday, a Tomb Raider convention held every year in Derby, I revealed that the book is currently in the editing stage.

I had never planned on a sequel to my first book — I genuinely thought I was done with Tomb Raider, book-wise. However, once I started playing Tomb Raider 3 in 2023 again for the dev talk at TR27 later that year, I became convinced there was another story to tell. I can reveal, for now, that the book will start in 1997, and end somewhere in the year 2000 with the release of Tomb Raider: Chronicles. I've really enjoyed the process with this one, and although I have played several Tomb Raider games to death at this point, it's never gotten old or boring — each of these games have brought a lot of interesting stories for the book — including some that have never been spoken about before.

The follow-up will once again be published by White Owl Books via Pen and Sword, with a tentative release date of fall 2025, just before the 30th anniversary of the Tomb Raider series the following year. With the recent announcement of Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered coming out on Valentine's Day next year, there's going to be plenty to look forward to.

Fun fact: the announcement photo above is inspired from the very first announcement of Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I've always loved the reveal at the end, so I wanted to make my own spin.

We were signing the book and more for an hour at TR28 - loved it.

TR28 was an amazing time — the event always is. I met so many kind and passionate folk all day, and hearing so much enthusiasm from them about the follow-up once the day wrapped up made it even better. To note, there was a moment when I sat with the team shown in the picture, as well as Judith Gibbins, the voice of Lara in Tomb Raider 2 and 3, once everything was done. We were exchanging baby photos and talking about Gin, and for a brief moment, I was asking myself, "How on earth did I get here?" I genuinely feel so lucky I get to do things like these, which only makes me even more determined to make sure that this follow-up is worth the wait for everyone.

A pre-order page for the book isn't live at Pen and Sword yet, but subscribing to this newsletter will be the best place to stay updated all about it.

Stay tuned.

Thanks for reading.
