Short Thoughts: Jodie Whittaker is the 13th Doctor.

After what seemed like a farce waiting for the announcement as Roger Federer won Wimbledon with no obvious set time, a woman is taking over the role in the name of Jodie Whittaker.

It’s a show I started watching in Christmas of 2006 with ‘The Runaway Bride’, and was a great watch. Unfortunately along the way it suffered by being too ‘knowing’, and a companion that was annoying and forgettable, no matter how much Steven Moffat tried to force her upon us. After Series 9 ended with a flying Diner and my least favourite companion flying it, I wasn’t keen.

But the recent series seemed to be getting good again, with a great finale and a great Christmas Special it seems for when Capaldi regenerates.

I had hoped for Phoebe Waller-Bridge, star of Fleabag to take up the role, as I thought she would be great for the part. But Whittaker is just as good, especially from her Broadchurch role. Sometimes you get an idea of who would fit best for the role, and this time no actors seemed to stand out, only a lot of actresses, which showed a lot of potential.

In a weird way for me, it reminds me of my previous job. I had always seen it a bit like Doctor Who. A role that stays the same but changes to whoever takes on the mantle next. I had always said I wanted ‘The Third Guru’ to be a woman, as that’s what I believed the store needed, and I was incredibly glad when it did happen in April.

Looks as though art is imitating life!

BBC have released a press page with some questions that Jodie answered here.
